Swank Brings Fashion to the People

Fashion is on the go with Swank Boutique's mobile fashion truck. The store on wheels is capitalizing on the newest trend in fashion and bringing the latest styles to Hoopfest this weekend.

“Its opened up our world,” says Jody Mallonee, the Owner of Swank Boutique, of the store's newest venture. The pink truck, Swank A-Go-Go, is literally a store on wheels, complete with clothing, accessories, even a dressing room, payments are made via iPad.

Mobile Retail is the next big thing in the industry, and Swank is the first business in Eastern Washington and Idaho to embrace the idea. Mallonee explains that having a mobile addition to her store allows them to show what they have to offer to people who may not have visited their space in North Spokane.

So far, the bright pink truck has visited Mom's Weekend at both WSU and U of I, Bloomsday, and Race for the Cure. On Friday night, Mallonee will park the truck Downtown in preparation for Hoopfest.

“It allows me to take my stuff to a place with 40,000 people,” Mallonee says of setting up at large events like Bloomsday and Hoopfest. Parents and players milling around between games will have an opportunity to do some shopping at a store they wouldn't typically visit.

The truck itself is a renovated tool truck, that Mallonee says wasn't anywhere near the hip space it is now. The fashion maven worked with a friend to redesign and custom build all of the elements inside and out. Mallonee hopes that other boutiques in town will follow suit.

“It's something different and new,” Mallonee says. “It'd be cool to get other trucks.”

Other trucks from other retailers that is. Mallonee explains that by having other retailers at events in trucks such as hers shoppers could really get a taste of what Spokane fashion has to offer. So far, Swank A-Go-Go is a huge hit.

“It'll pay for itself in no time,” says Mallonee. During it's debut outing in April the truck earned back what it cost to buy the vehicle. It's also bringing foot traffic into Swank's flagship boutique with customers looking for items they saw in the truck.

Swank A-Go-Go has three event appearances planned so far for the summer, they'll be at the 4th of July festivities in Coeur d'Alene as well as the Hot Summer Night event at Arbor Crest. You can stop Swank A-Go-Go Hoopfest weekend starting at around 10am on Saturday morning. Mallonee predicts her top sellers this weekend will be sunglasses and cold cups.
